CarbonX is an advanced materials company originally founded in 2014 as a spin-off from Delft University of Technology. The company produces CarbonX®, a revolutionary new carbon material that can deliver high performance and greater sustainability to make a positive impact in various applications.

CarbonX® is produced in bulk and supplied globally to the tire and plastics industry. In fact, our first commercial tire application will hit the market at the start of 2022. After securing a growth-investment round, it’s now time to make a dent in the plastics industry, focusing on durability and performance.
You will be joining a multidisciplinary and international team based in Delft, with its labs and offices housed in the buzzing incubator of Yes!Delft. You’ll be working closely with the Head of Sales to analyse and improve upon our strategy for different (niche) plastics markets, particularly those where sustainability and performance can make a difference. We actively target market segments in automotive, electrical & electronics and industrial manufacturing. Our current focus is on thin films and impact-enhanced plastic applications, where we offer myriad benefits for design (performance) and durability (sustainability).
Make sure you’re a good travel companion! We typically find our clients at (international) conferences and exhibitions, so we travel regularly (if conditions allow) to nurture existing leads and meet new prospects. The sales team works very closely with the technical team to develop application-specific solutions – so a hands-on approach will go a long way!
As a team, we continuously review our tactics and adapt to new situations, successes and challenges. A proactive approach and the ability to offer constructive feedback are invaluable to help the team grow, business-wise and in sales revenue.
What will you do?
As a Business Developer for plastics applications, your main responsibility is to find product/market fits for our commercial grades in the plastics industry. You will cover a broad range of the business development trajectories: full market analysis, generating qualified Sales leads and create a business development strategy that converts leads into successful prospects. *Drinks are on you, once a prospect fully validates the sustainability and performance offering CarbonX brings to their product!
You will help shape the strategy for the plastics business line, and pave the way for new colleagues that will be hired on your team over the coming year. You get the chance to lead the way! This means you will need to distinguish between what works and what doesn’t work for your customers and determine how to best focus CarbonX resources towards successful projects.
Development cycles in materials science can be long and we provide guidance for our clients from initial screenings to application development and commercialisation. You will be nurturing this process in collaboration with your technical colleagues. Since CarbonX® is a new material on the market, you will need to make a strong link between the benefits of our material to the latest trends and innovations in the plastics industry.

Who are you?
You are looking for a high-pace, creative, and commercial challenge that will push your boundaries. With your experience and confident nature, you are able to create business opportunities and build relations. You have leadership skills and can grow into a leadership role in time. You have an independent mindset, and you don’t stop after the first try. Enthusiasm, curiosity, and proactivity define your attitude in business. In addition, you see the value of reporting and administration to keep things organized and provide a clear overview of the business line. Having an analytical mind, a feel for the chemicals/materials industry, and a good dose of competitiveness will seal the deal.
There are a few must-haves to fit this role:
- You need to have experience 3 to 5 years experience in a sales role and/or environment
- You need to have experience in B2B sales
- You need to have a Bachelor diploma
- You need to be fluent in English, both written and oral
- You need to live in travelling distance from our Delft office
And some nice-to-haves:
- Experience in the plastics industry
- A technical background
- Fluent in Dutch
